With over 1.5 million visitors attending more than 100 events annually, Sydney Showground recognises its leadership role in shaping the future of the events and venue industry in support of the global mission to achieve Net-Zero.

Impact
Our Challenge
The events industry is responsible for over 10% of global carbon emissions, making it a major contributor to climate change.
Event organisers and host venues struggle to accurately assess their environmental impact. The fast-paced nature of the industry and involvement of multiple stakeholders make it challenging to identify and collect the necessary data for a precise assessment.
Our Goal
Our goal was to help Sydney Showground provide a solution to their clients to understand and track the environmental impact of their individual events, and further provide ways to reduce or compensate for any emissions associated with their event.
The Clima Solution
We created the Climate Conscious Events (CCE) initiative to empower Sydney Showground’s clients. The initiative aimed to evaluate the environmental impact of events, implement effective reduction strategies, and help offset emissions.
Process
The initiative was thoughtfully crafted to establish a streamlined process to engage key stakeholders, ensuring accurate and efficient event emission calculations. The process we implemented can be seen below.
Outcome
The CCE initiative proved to be a transformative program, raising the standard for environmental excellence within the events industry. Through our collaboration with Sydney Showground, we supported the implementation of sustainable long-term strategies and established systems to track and evaluate the progress of future events. With the program still in motion, we eagerly anticipate witnessing its lasting positive impact on the industry.
